Although it was intended as a limited series for one season, HBO renewed the series for a second season, following the exploits of various guests and employees of a luxury resort over the course of a week. The series is said to be an anthology-style series with new characters each season. HBO has done this before (to great acclaim) with the series True Detective (2014). Jeremy Vine: Featured in episode #4.175 (2021). While some of the early series were scary. This second series is as brilliant as one could hope for. It starts off a little slow, the first episode, but quickly finds its feet and impresses again and again, drawing me in in a way I’m not quite used to. It feels like a review of every thought I’ve ever experienced at a resort, many of which I’ve long forgotten. It’s a delight on that score alone, but don’t worry, it goes even further to flirt with the dramatic heights and elegance of opera, which is entirely appropriate given its Sicilian setting. Given the excellence of the acting and the apparent tedium of the story, I have to say that the show’s creator, Mike White, is something of an unrivaled genius. He seems to know no boundaries and has the sharpest eye for detail I’ve ever seen.
