Narrative

A family is invited to spend an entire weekend in a lonely house in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that there is a dark side to the family that invited them. Blumhouse Productions has been a major force in the horror genre since 2007. See how IMDb users rank all of Blumhouse’s horror films since 2007. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022), who befriended a Dutch couple on vacation in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were a bit socially awkward, both couples got along very well, and after returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from the Dutch family to come to Holland. He briefly considered it, but decided it would be weird to hang out with people he didn’t really know; His story for the film came about when he let loose his darkest fantasies about what might have happened if he had agreed (while still maintaining that the original Dutch couple never gave off bad vibes).

Who would have thought that the studio’s salvation would be an American remake of a film that is barely two years old and already 80% in English? But here we are. This version is infinitely better, less frustrating, and, dare I say it, downright satisfying.

The biggest improvement?

James McAvoy: what a powerhouse. Honestly, put this guy in every horror movie from now on, especially if he’s the bad guy. He’s so good you can almost hear him whisper, “Look at him stealing every damn scene.” And of course he does. Every. In my opinion, Time.Speak No Evil is hands down one of the best horror movies of the year. Characters you actually root for.

Well, they’re a little silly in the first third, but at least they get along before you lose all hope except for one certain individual. Blumhouse, take a bow: you finally did something right!. The final season of "What We Do in the Shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
